Queensland Career Start

A QLD Government funding program

The Career Start Program is provided by the Queensland Government. The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Career Start General Training Pathway

To be eligible for funding, students must be:

A permanent Queensland resident
Aged 15 or older and not currently attending school
An Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent residents (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
Not currently be enrolled in a Qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
Not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years for a general training pathway (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count);
Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10 year period

Career Start Apprenticeship/ Traineeship Pathway

To  be eligible for funding, students must be:

A permanent Queensland resident
Aged 15 or older and not currently attending school
An Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent residents (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
An individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee.
Have entered into a Contract (training contract) for a qualification that is funded by DTET and be registered on DTET’s training database as a Trainee.
If from overseas, have a visa allowing them to work in Australia
Not currently be enrolled in a Qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10 year period

Fee exemptions may apply and is conditional on the Government Policy and Funding Arrangements, subject to eligibility. By undertaking and completing this qualification subsidised by the Queensland government, you will no longer be eligible for another government subsidised place in that same program. Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From the first of January 2015, all students participating in Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). We are required by Commonwealth legislation to have this number recorded for your training and cannot enrol new students without this number. If you do not have a USI, you can find more information on obtaining one here. Your USI may be used for reporting Training Activity Data to the Department.

Recognition of prior learning

Students may be eligible for RPL or Credit Transfer. For more information on how to apply for this please see our student handbook or contact us.

What if I’m not eligible

Should you be ineligible for a government subsidised place, J2S Training Solutions offers this exact qualification under our fee-for-service (FFS) arrangement. For more information about this payment option, read the Fee for Service section available on each of the individual Qualification pages. ​J2S Training Solutions does not accept upfront payments of more than $1,500. If a student’s fee is more than this amount, the support of a flexible payment plan will be offered to students.

Course Information

The below qualifications may be subsidised by the Queensland government, under the Career Start: General Training Pathway Program and the Career Start: Apprenticeship/Traineeship Program.
Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s offer full subsidised training for apprenticeships/traineeships in priority areas. Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s will cover the cost of training for Queensland apprentices or trainees who commence or are undertaking one of the high priority traineeships from 1 January 2021 to 30 June 2027. Fee-free training is available for the following traineeships:
CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Community Care), and
CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)​

The following Student Co-Contribution fees apply, varying based on student eligibility status:

Apprenticeship/Traineeship Program
$22.50 per qualification or $1.50 per Unit of Competency
$45.00 per qualification or $3.00 per Unit of Competency
$1.60 per nominal training hour for each Unit of Competency. Concession rates for those eligible apply at $0.64 per nominal training hour.
This nationally recognised training is delivered and assessed by J2S Training Solutions Pty Ltd, RTO ID 90940, ABN 66 107 687 196, RTO ID 90966, ABN 39 109 662 606. This training will deliver skills and knowledge to the industry standard but does not guarantee a job. We tailor training for people from diverse backgrounds, including those with a disability.
