About the qualification

Our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support prepares workers for providing tailored support to individuals in community and in residential environments, considering their unique needs and exercising professional judgement. This role builds accountability and responsibility for achieving expected outcomes. Workers have both practical and theoretical knowledge to provide person-centred support.

Upon successfully completing this nationally recognised qualification, students should be able to: 

  • improve workplace communication skills and provide person-centred support 

  • demonstrate safe work practices for direct client care 

  • perform day-to-day activities in health and community care industries.


Students will be required to complete 120 hours in a workplace approved by J2S Training Solutions.

Outcome

Successful completion of the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support may lead to employment opportunities, including: 

  • Assistant in Nursing 

  • Personal Care Assistant 

  • Family Support Worker.

Duration

This qualification can be completed in up to thirty-six months, dependent on the student's experience, Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Apply for CT or RPL during enrolment.

Delivery

This course may be delivered through face-to-face, online, or work-based training. We use a range of assessment methods for this qualification, including: 

  • short answers

  • projects 

  • activities 

  • workplace observation

  • observation in a simulated workplace.

Units of Competency

This qualification consists of 15 units of competency, including 9 core and 6 elective units from one of the specialisations offered.

Students may select either the Disability or Ageing or Community Care specialisation or can select from a list  of general electives. Talk to us if you require units not listed below.

Student Requirements

The following will be required for the enrolment process:

  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)

  • verifiable identification documents

  • completion of the LLND assessment.

WORK PLACEMENT

This training program includes a minimum of 120 hours of work placement.


Queensland Work Placement requirements:

  • 100% clear current National Police Check clearance certificate

  • Disability Worker Screening Check

  • Blue Card for working with children

  • Current vaccination records may be required.

New South Wales Work Placement requirements:

  • 100% clear current National Police Check clearance certificate

  • NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC)

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)

  • Current vaccination records may be required.

Applications for these clearances are made on an individual basis directly to the relevant government department. Application fees may apply.


Students will require access to appropriate technology and internet if the materials are delivered online.

This nationally recognised qualification is delivered and assessed by J2S Training Solutions Pty Ltd, RTO ID 90940, ABN 66 107 687 196. This training will deliver skills and knowledge to the industry standard but does not guarantee a job. We tailor training for people from diverse backgrounds, including those with a disability.

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT FUNDING


Career Start General Training Pathway

The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship.


This program is subsidised by the Queensland government, under the Career Start General Training Pathway Program. 


The following Student Co-Contribution fees apply, varying based on student eligibility status:

  • Concession: $22.50 per qualification or $1.50 per Unit of Competency

  • Non-concession: $45.00 per qualification or $3.00 per Unit of Competency


To be eligible for funding, students must be:

  • A permanent Queensland resident

  • Aged 15 or older and not currently attending school

  • An Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent residents (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

  • Not currently be enrolled in a Qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).

  • Not already have a Certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years for a general training pathway (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count);

  • Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10 year period

Career Start Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway

The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship. For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract (the Contract) as defined by the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (the Act).

The employer of an apprentice/trainee must provide or arrange to provide adequate facilities, range of work, supervision and on-the-job training required by the Act and training plan.

The Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO) is required to assess these employment arrangements, complete an Employer Resource Assessment and develop the training plan in consultation with the employer, apprentice and/or trainee to ensure compliance with the Act.


This program is subsidised by the Queensland government, under the Career Start Apprenticeship/Traineeship Program. 


The following Student Co-Contribution fees apply, varying based on student eligibility status:


  • $1.60 per nominal training hour for each unit of competency

  • 40% of the standard fee is payable if an apprentice/trainee meets any of the following criteria:

    • under 17 years of age at the end of February in the year training is provided,

    • is not at school and has not completed Year 12;

    • holds a Health Care Card or Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card, or is the partner or dependent of someone who does;

    • identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (First Nations people).



To be eligible for funding, students must be:


  • A permanent Queensland resident

  • Aged 15 or older and not currently attending school

  • An Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent residents (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

  • An individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee.

  • Have entered into a Contract (training contract) for a qualification that is funded by DTET and be registered on DTET’s training database as a Trainee

  • If from overseas, have a visa allowing them to work in Australia

  • Not currently be enrolled in a Qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).

  • Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10 year period
